An actuary is a business professional who uses mathematical skills to define, analyze, and solve business and social problems. This major stresses the application of mathematical and statistical concepts to the measurement of risk and insurance rates while providing a broad understanding of the business environment. Actuarial Science majors are encouraged to take the first few of the series of professional examinations leading to fellowship in either the Society of Actuaries or the Casualty Actuarial Society. Graduates find career opportunities in life, health, and casualty insurance companies, consulting firms, and government.
The B.S. in Actuarial Science is offered by Penn State's Smeal College of Business.
