Advertising/Public Relations
This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State University Park.

This major is designed to provide a balance of theory, research, and practice. Students develop an understanding of the role and effect of advertising and public relations within the business, social, and political arenas. Course work from a wide range of disciplines including business, behavioral sciences, and applied statistics is used to equip students for informed decision-making in a dynamic environment. All courses in the advertising curriculum emphasize the critical importance of integrated communication. Students develop abilities and skills that prepare them for a wide range of professional opportunities that include: media planning and relations, research, client services, and creative content. The public relations curriculum prepares students for the challenges of practice in a highly competitive, technological, multicultural, and global environment. Students study the role and function of public relations in building cooperative and mutually beneficial relations between organizations and their publics. The objective of the major is to prepare students for entry-level opportunities in advertising and public relations and for eventual managerial roles where an understanding of integrated communications concepts is essential.

The B.A. in Advertising/Public Relations is offered by Penn State's College of Communications.
