Architects occupy their own place astride the worlds of art and technology. As creative designers, they reflect the history, philosophy, dreams, and values of a culture through their buildings. The study of architecture combines the arts and humanities with engineering and technology. It demands a thorough understanding of design, theory, and technology that will lead to the creation of buildings that are appropriate and responsible solutions to the cultural needs of the client and the natural circumstances of the site. Architecture at Penn State is a studio-based, tutorial program with the design studio at the curriculum's core. Architecture students must begin at the University Park campus, where admission is selective and highly competitive.

The five year bachelor of architecture degree helps students prepare for professional careers as architects, while the bachelor of science degree is preprofessional.

The B. Arch. and B.S. in Architecture are offered by Penn State's College of Arts and Architecture.
