This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State University Park.
This five-year major applies science and engineering principles to the design, construction, and operation of buildings and building systems. Four options are available: Construction, which emphasizes construction engineering and management; Lighting/Electrical, which includes the analysis and design of illumination and electrical distribution systems; Mechanical, which includes the analysis and design of energy efficient heating-cooling systems, indoor air quality, plumbing, fire protection, and architectural acoustics; and the Structural option, which emphasizes the design of structural systems.
Graduates may find employment with consulting engineering firms, architectural/engineering firms, commercial organizations with extensive building facilities, government agencies, building construction firms, construction management firms, or commercial and residential developers. They may also pursue an advanced degree leading to research and an academic career.
The B.Arch.E. in Architectural Engineering is offered by Penn State's College of Engineering.
