This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State University Park.
This major focuses on the study of how cells and molecules function to make life possible. Growth, development, reproduction, genetics, sensory function, memory, disease, and, in fact, every biological response can be explained in terms of the structures and interactions of cells and molecules. Biochemists and molecular biologists study such events using analytical and quantitative methodologies, including recombinant DNA or gene splicing techniques. Many Biochemistry and Molecular Biology students go on to graduate, medical, or other professional schools, while others find employment in industrial, pharmaceutical, government, or university research laboratories. The B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is offered by Penn State's Eberly College of Science.
