This major helps students develop the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to work with people who have speech or hearing disabilities. The field of communication disorders draws on areas such as linguistics, acoustics, psychology, anatomy, and physiology. The major is preprofessional, preparing students for the graduate study necessary for certification in speech-language pathology or audiology. Established more than fifty years ago, Penn State's Communication Sciences and Disorders major is accredited by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
The B.S. in Communication Sciences & Disorders is offered by Penn State's College of Health and Human Development.
