Criminal Justice

Penn State offers two degrees in criminal justice, each of which is completed at a different location.

Criminal Justice at Penn State Altoona
This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State Altoona.

The B.A./B.S. in Criminal Justice provides an understanding of the three main components of the criminal justice system--law enforcement, courts, and corrections--individually and as components of a system. The program also includes theories of crime causation and course work in related areas necessary for careers in modern criminal justice--computers, statistics, ethics, research methods, and multicultural issues. Graduates should be able to evaluate current and future crime-control policy proposals and criminal justice research, and understand the complexity of the crime phenomenon and its relationship to individual, social, and cultural factors.

The B.S. in Criminal Justice is offered by Penn State's Altoona College

Criminal Justice at Penn State Harrisburg and Schuylkill
This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State Harrisburg, Schuylkill, or World Campus.

This major provides graduates with the communication and analytical skills critical to succeed in criminal justice and related careers. Through an interdisciplinary approach to the problems of crime and society, the program equips students to pursue graduate study in criminal justice or related disciplines and educates them to become more effective problem solvers as professionals in the field of criminal justice. The study of criminal justice is approached as an applied interdisciplinary science, teaching students the practical aspects of crime control and the administration of justice. Criminal Justice majors can participate in a one-semester internship in a criminal justice agency after completing appropriate course work at an acceptable level of performance.

The B.S. in Criminal Justice is offered by Penn State's Capital College.

Please note: The University may make changes in policies, procedures, educational offerings, and requirements at any time. Please consult the most recent Degree Programs Bulletin for more detailed information.
