Economics

Penn State offers several degrees in economics, each of which is completed at a different location.

Economics at Penn State University Park
This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State University Park.

Economics describes and analyzes the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services; decision making; and the determination of the overall level of prices, income, and employment. Economists analyze both private and social benefits, including their costs and values to an organization, other affected groups, and the economy as a whole. Economics graduates are hired by private industry and the government, often as analysts. Some graduates may find employment as portfolio analysts with large corporations; others may work as manufacturer/sales representatives or consultants to labor unions.

B.S.or B.A. degrees in Economics are offered by Penn State's Smeal College of Business and College of the Liberal Arts.

Economics at Penn State Erie
This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State Erie.

This major features a broad liberal arts background that serves as a foundation for advanced study in the methods and techniques of economic analysis. The use of mainframe and microcomputers as analytical and problem solving tools is emphasized in the program's upper division courses. Students may choose upper division courses in several areas of specialization: business and economic forecasting, econometrics, economic theory, industrial organization, international economics, labor economics, managerial economics, and urban and regional economics. Economists are employed in virtually every type of business, including manufacturing, utilities, insurance, retailing, finance, and banking. Government at all levels is another major employer of economists.

The B.A. in Economics is offered by Penn State's Behrend College.

Read more about high school course requirements. This major has no transfer requirements specific to the major.

Please note: The University may make changes in policies, procedures, educational offerings, and requirements at any time. Please consult the most recent Degree Programs Bulletin for more detailed information.
