Elementary and Kindergarten Education

Penn State offers two locations where students can earn degrees in elementary and kindergarten education.

Elementary and Kindergarten Education at University Park
This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State University Park.

Students who complete this major are prepared to teach in nursery schools and/or kindergarten through sixth grade. They may pursue one or both of the following teaching options: Early Childhood Teaching and Elementary Education Teaching.

The B.S. in Elementary and Kindergarten Education is offered by Penn State's College of Education.

Elementary and Kindergarten Education at Altoona
This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State Altoona.

Through this program, students prepare to teach kindergarten through sixth grade. Upon successful program completion, they will meet all requirements for an Instructional I certificate issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Students have opportunities for field experiences early on in their studies, and prior to student teaching.

The B.S. in Elementary and Kindergarten Education is offered by Penn State's Altoona College.

Elementary and Kindergarten Education at Berks
This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State Berks.

Students who complete this program are prepared to teach kindergarten through sixth grade and will meet the requirements for Instruction I certification from the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Practical field experiences in school settings are emphasized to promote the integration of academic course work and professional skills. These experiences provide valuable hands-on opportunities for students to learn about the process of teaching/learning and to explore the teaching profession. Students are required to be knowledgeable abvout the subject matter they intend to teach. They must also learn how to create environments which support the learning and development of young students, enrich individual and group learning, and use a variety of resources, including technology.

The B.S. in Elementary and Kindergarten Education is offered by Penn State's Berks College.
