This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State University Park.
This interdisciplinary major provides students with the tools for pursuing solutions to environmental problems. Many environmental issues arise from the extraction and utilization of minerals and fuels. Current environmental remediation technology is largely borrowed from the techniques developed to separate, enhance, and handle materials and waste in the mineral industries. The core program emphasizes geo-engineering systems; the process engineering of fluid and particulate systems; and the economic, regulatory, and management aspects of remediation technology. Students specialize in land, air, or water technologies. This major has wide application in federal and state programs, as well as in the private sector.
The B.S. in Environmental Systems Engineering is offered by Penn State's College of Earth and Mineral Sciences.
