Human Development and Family Studies

Penn State offers several degree programs in Human Development and Family Studies, each of which is completed at a different location.

Human Development and Family Studies at Penn State University Park
This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State University Park.

This major helps provide students with the knowledge to understand such issues as child care, education, child abuse, aging, family relationships and counseling, and human resource management--all areas where human development professionals are greatly needed. Students study individual and family development over the life span, the cultural and institutional influences on that development, and strategies for intervention and prevention of problems. The three options available at the University Park campus are: Adult Development and Aging Services; Children, Youth, and Family Services; and Life Span Human Development and Family Relations.

The B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies is offered by Penn State's College of Health and Human Development.

Human Development and Family Studies at Penn State Altoona, Delaware County, DuBois, Fayette, Mont Alto, Shenango, Worthington Scranton, and York
This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State Altoona, Delaware County, DuBois, Fayette, Mont Alto, Shenango, Worthington Scranton, or York.

The Human Development and Family Studies degree option in Community Human Services is designed to help students prepare for work in the expanding human services field. It blends the theoretical underpinnings of human development across the life span with hands-on applied practice in community settings. As a unique feature of this program, students become familiar with specific human services organizations and needs in Pennsylvania. Many graduates of this program find careers working with or for the elderly, children and youth, and/or families in many kinds of agencies.

The B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies is offered by Penn State's Altoona College and University College.

Please note: The University may make changes in policies, procedures, educational offerings, and requirements at any time. Please consult the most recent Degree Programs Bulletin for more detailed information.
