This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State University Park.
Immunology is the study of how animals and humans protect themselves from pathogens. Students enrolled in the Immunology and Infectious Disease major will develop an understanding of normal immune responses to bacterial, fungal, and viral agents; the potential pathological outcomes of these response; and the general biology of pathogens and the mechanisms by which they cause disease. They will also gain skill in the areas of microbiology, virology, animal health, genetics, biochemistry, and molecular and cell biology. This major can help graduates prepare for veterinary or medical schools, graduate work in a wide variety of related areas, or employment as research technicians, laboratory assistants, or pharmaceutical sales representatives.
The B.S. in Immunology and Infectious Disease is offered by Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences.
