Penn State offers two programs in kinesiology, each of which is completed at a different location.
Kinesiology at Penn State University Park
This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State University Park.
This major focuses on the study of human movement through sport and exercise, encompassing exercise physiology, fitness appraisal, exercise prescription, sport biomechanics, motor control, sport psychology, sport history, teaching, and coaching. The Athletic Training option helps students prepare to work with athletic injuries in sports medicine clinics and with sports teams. The Movement Science option helps students prepare to be exercise specialists in corporate fitness centers, private fitness businesses, and other settings. The Teacher Preparation option is for students seeking certification as health and physical education teachers in elementary and secondary schools or as instructors, coaches, or program directors for sports clubs, health clubs, and community agencies. The Kinesiology major helps students prepare for graduate study in related areas including allied health professions (physical therapy, physician assistant, cardiac rehabilitation, etc.) sport psychology, or research areas such as biomechanics, motor control, and exercise physiology.
The B.S. in Kinesiology is offered by Penn State's College of Health and Human Development.
Kinesiology at Penn State Berks
This program may be started at any campus and is completed only a Penn State Berks.
The Wellness Development Specialization Option of the Kinesiology bachelor of science degree is a program of study in the science of human movement. This program offers a background in kinesiology and applied experience in health assessment, exercise physiology, motor skill development, stress management, nutrition, and healthy living skills. The program also emphasizes the basic business skills of accounting, marketing, management, and entrepreneurship.
The B.S. in Kinesiology is offered by Penn State's Berks College.
