Penn State offers several degrees in mechanical engineering, each of which is completed at a different location.
Mechanical Engineering at Penn State University Park
This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State University Park.
This field can range from the design and development of very small mechanical components to the design and fabrication of mammoth power plants. Mechanical engineering involves the creation, testing, evaluation, manufacture, and distribution of devices such as robots, spacecraft, rocket engines, air conditioning equipment, automobiles, and airplanes. The program includes studies in the basic mechanics of solids and fluids, electricity and electronics, dynamics, vibration analyses, and heat transfer. Mechanical engineers find employment in research, development, design, testing and evaluation, production, operation and maintenance, marketing and sales, and administration. They work in industries including automotive, power, computer, aeronautical, and general manufacturing.
The B.S. in Mechanical Engineering is offered by Penn State's College of Engineering.
Mechanical Engineering at Penn State Erie
This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State Erie.
Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest and oldest branches of engineering. It can require work that ranges from the design and manufacture of very fine and sensitive instruments to the design and fabrication of mammoth power plants. Mechanical engineering involves a wide range of activities including research, development, design testing, manufacturing, and production and operation of such devices as automobiles, home appliances, spacecraft, rocket engines, air conditioning equipment, power plants, and many types of instruments. The many areas within mechanical engineering include transportation, machine design, energy conversion, power generation, manufacturing and automation, control of engineering systems, and materials selection.
The B.S. in Mechanical Engineering is offered by Penn State's Behrend College.
