This program is started and completed only at Penn State University Park.
The School of Music is recognized internationally for the scope, quality, and integrity of its programs. Developing musical talent requires close, personal instruction. There are more than forty full-time faculty members in residence in the school. Performance is an integral part of each music student's program. More than a dozen large performing groups, as well as a variety of small, specialized ensembles, are available for students. Acquiring a broad understanding of musical literature from many stylistic periods is important in a musician's growth. Each year, more than 100 concerts and recitals are scheduled by the school and University. Career opportunities for music students include teaching, performing (instrumental and vocal), conducting, composing, church music, arts management, and the music business (the recording industry, publishing, booking agencies, and criticism). Enrollment is limited to University Park campus to ensure availability of appropriate curricular offerings. Placement is based on academic achievement, an audition, and a personal interview.
The B.A., B.S., B.Mus., and B.M.A. are offered by Penn State's College of Arts and Architecture.
