This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State University Park.
This major is for students who want to pursue careers in nutrition research, nutrition education, health care, and related fields. The Basic Sciences option is designed for students who plan to work in food or pharmaceutical industries or attend medical, dental, or graduate school. The Applied Science option emphasizes helping people improve their eating habits and nutritional health. Graduates work in hospitals, nursing homes, community agencies, schools, the food industry, and private practice. Those who complete this option will meet the American Dietetic Association (ADA) requirements to apply for a dietetic internship. Registered Dietitian (RD) status is earned by completing an ADA-accredited internship and passing the registration exam after graduation.
The B.S. in Nutritional Sciences is offered by Penn State's College Health and Human Development.
