Political Science

Penn State offers several degrees in political science, each of which is completed at a different location.

Political Science at Penn State University Park
This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State University Park.

Students in Political Science receive an introduction to the complexities of the political process. This major offers opportunities to develop a basic understanding of the federal, state, and local governments of the United States, as well as other nations, and an understanding of American, comparative, and international politics and their underlying philosophies.

The B.A. in Political Science is offered by Penn State's College of the Liberal Arts.

Political Science at Penn State Erie
This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State Erie.

This major provides students with an understanding of government and with preparation in an area suitable for professional work or advanced study. Students take 9 credits of common requirements and choose the remaining 27 credits from courses in American government, comparative politics, international politics, and policy and law. Although political science has traditionally been associated with law and government service, Penn State's Behrend College graduates have entered many occupations, including business, the armed forces, and academic professions. The program's design and academic advising improve career opportunities in several ways. All students are encouraged to gain communication and quantification skills applicable to advanced course work. Students may get on-the-job experience through an internship with local agencies or public officials.

The B.S. in Biology is offered by Penn State's Behrend College.

Please note: The University may make changes in policies, procedures, educational offerings, and requirements at any time. Please consult the most recent Degree Programs Bulletin for more detailed information.
