Psychology at Penn State University Park This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State University Park.
Psychology is a scholarly discipline, a scientific field, and a professional activity. Its overall focus is the study of human behavior and related mental and physiological processes. By studying various aspects, psychology students prepare for graduate work in psychology or other professions, as well as careers in industrial, human services, or laboratory settings.
Psychology at Penn State Altoona This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State Atloona.
This major combines the knowledge, skills, and values of psychology with a liberal arts foundation. Students should develop a knowledge base consisting of concepts, theory, empirical findings, and trends within psychology; understand and apply basic research methods in psychology; use critical thinking and the scientific approach to solve problems related to behavior and mental processes; apply psychological principles to personal and social issues; and be able to understand the gender, race, ethnicity, culture, and class issues in psychological theory, research, and practice. Students should also develop information and computer competence, communication skills, and develop realistic ideas about how to implement their psychology education in occupational pursuits in a variety of settings. The major may lead to either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree
Psychology at Penn State Erie This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State Erie.
The Psychology major at Penn State's Behrend College offers students either a bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree. The bachelor of arts program provides a psychology education within a liberal arts framework. For more quantitatively oriented students, the bachelor of science degree enables majors to pursue interests in science, math, or business. The bachelor of science in Psychology at Penn State's Behrend College requires students to choose one of two options in which they take a number of specialized courses. The Business option is chosen by students who want to apply their psychological training to the business world. The General Psychology option enables a student to pursue his or her particular interests through related electives. After completing introductory courses, Psychology majors select upper-division courses such as developmental psychology, experimental psychology, and learning theory. They also complete courses in abnormal behavior, social psychology, and personality.
Psychology at Penn State Harrisburg, Schuylkill This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State Harrisburg or Schuylkill.
The Psychology major emphasizes the scientific study of psychology, including areas such as abnormal psychology, cognition, developmental psychology, learning theory, physiology, and social psychology. Students develop and use knowledge of research methods and statistics. They typically prepare for graduate school or for careers in human services fields, applied behavior fields, and human resource management through two options. The Psychological Services option is designed to provide experiences to facilitate the transition to the workforce for students planning to seek employment at entry-level positions in careers such as human services, applied behavioral fields, or resource management. The Experimental Psychology option is designed to prepare students for graduate education, particularly on the doctorate level.
