This program may be started at any campus and is completed only at Penn State Harrisburg.
This major prepares students to meet the requirements to be certified for either the Citizenship Education or Social Science Instructional I Certificate as established by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Students may select the Citizenship Education option, which prepares students to teach history, government, economics, and geography; or the Social Science option, which prepares students to teach psychology, sociology, and anthropology. Students are challenged to prepare for teaching assignments at the middle and high school levels, and in diverse settings characterized as rural, urban, or suburban.
The B.SOSC. in Secondary Education: Social Studies is offered by Penn State's Capital College.
