This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State University Park.
Professional expertise in performance and production is the ultimate goal of Penn State students and faculty. Understanding theory, criticism, research, history, and dramatic literature is essential to those who want to succeed in the program. Equal emphasis is placed on the student's development as an individual and an artist. In the belief that theatre exists to motivate, stimulate, and inspire, the program urges artistic activism through a vigorous and challenging production oriented plan of classwork and practical experience. The B.A. is designed to provide broad based training and experience. The B.F.A. is designed to provide specialized training and experience in design and technology, stage management, or musical theatre. The School of Theatre stages a wide variety of productions annually, providing hundreds of opportunities for actors, directors, designers, stage managers, and technicians. Each academic year the School of Theatre mounts five main stage productions in which students work alongside guest professionals. During the summer, opportunities for student internships are available on and off campus. Placement in the school is based on an audition, portfolio, and/ or interview.
The B.A. and B.F.A. in Theatre are offered by Penn State's College of Arts and Architecture.
