This program may be started at any campus and is completed at Penn State University Park.
This major helps a person already skilled in a trade or craft (such as mechanics, masonry, heavy equipment operation and maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, nursing, food service, cosmetology, or dental or medical laboratory work) prepare to teach in a vocational-technical school, trade school, or community college, or to coordinate or supervise in a vocational education setting. Students choose from four options: Health Occupations Education, Industrial Education, or Occupational Home Economics Education— all of which lead to a teacher certificate— or a noncertificate Industrial Teaching option. To be certified, a candidate must have sufficient employment experience to establish competency in the occupation to be taught.
The B.S. in Workforce Education and Development is offered by Penn State's College of Education.
