UNDERSTANDING OUR ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

Here are our various types of admission, which each have a different set of requirements. Please use the links to learn more.

First-Year
First-year students are those who have earned high school diplomas or the equivalent by the time they enroll at Penn State. These applicants include high school graduates attending other regionally accredited colleges or universities who have attempted fewer than 18 semester hours, and individuals who have enrolled in Penn State (on a nondegree basis) or other institutions before graduating from high school, regardless of the number of credits attempted.

Transfer
Transfer applicants are those who have earned high school diplomas or the equivalent and who have attempted at least 18 semester credits at other regionally accredited colleges or universities before enrolling at Penn State.

International
International applicants are those who require any type of visa in order to attend Penn State.

Adult
An adult learner may be 24 years of age or older; or a veteran of the armed services; or returning to school after four or more years of employment, homemaking, or other activity; or a person who assumes multiple adult roles such as parent, spouse/partner, employee, and student.

Provisional/Non-Degree to Degree
A provisional or non-degree student seeking admission to a baccalaureate degree program must complete a minimum of 18 Penn State credits with a minimum grade point average of 2.0.

A provisional or non-degree student seeking admission to an associate degree program must complete at least 9 credits of Penn State course work with a 2.0 average.

Previous Penn State students
Former Penn State students (who were enrolled in a degree program) who left Penn State may return by applying for re-enrollment. Our Registrar will be glad to assist you with this process: please review the instructions there under "Re-enrollment."
