Encourage your students to keep the following in mind when completing and submitting an application:
1) Choice of application: While we prefer that students use the Web application, there is no difference between the Web or print application. Both cost the same, and the choice of medium has no bearing on the admission decision. The Web application may be more efficient for students. Please see Why Use the Web Application for more details on the Web application.
NOTE: The Schreyer Honors College application is available online. Students can access the Honors College application via their MyAdmissions account.
2) If they choose to use the print application, they should make sure the information is legible or typed.
3) Encourage them to check to make sure they have completed all required information. We strongly suggest they also complete the optional information sections.
4) We ask students to self-report the courses they have taken in high school. Although this information is checked with the official transcript, it is in their best interest to check for accuracy when completing this section, as it will expedite the evaluation of their application.
5) We strongly encourage students to investigate campus choices and always list two choices on their application. We will always first evaluate a students campus choices in the seqrence indicated on the application.
6) Encourage your students to consider summer admission to University Park. Although it is still very competitive, it is slightly less so than fall admission.
7) The application fee is payable by credit card. If students are completing Web applications, they will be required to pay by credit card before they can submit their application.
8) Although Penn State has a modified rolling admissions policy. Applicants for first-year (freshmen) admission are strongly encouraged to submit a complete application by November 30. Complete applications include the counselor information page, transcript, and SAT I or ACT scores. Although applications submitted after November 30 will still be considered, the competition for many campuses becomes greater after that date.
9) Students may change their application after it has been submitted. The Admissions Office requests that all changes to the application be made in writing. The student should send a letter specifying the change to the Undergraduate Admissions Office, The Pennsylvania State University, 201 Shields Building, Box 3000, University Park, PA 16804-3000. Students may also e-mail the requested change from our website, www.psu.edu/admissions.
