There are plenty of opportunities for you here at the ROTC program. As a Freshman already at University Park, Altoona, Abington, or Hazleton Campus, you are eligible for enrollment in the Army 101 and 102 series of classes. The most question we hear most often is "am I in the Army then?" No. You have no requirement or obligation during the Freshman or Sophomore year, in what we call the Basic Course. Think of it as a "trial period", where you can see how we do things, find out what the program is all about, and your options and opportunities. Our schedule for Freshmen and Sophomore students is: Physical Training three times per week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Class one day per week (50 minute course) Leadership Lab, 2 hours per week on Thurday afternoon. One Field Training Exercise per semester (48 hour duration). During these courses, we focus on the basics. From organization and function, to public speaking skills. We develop and hone the leadership skills of the individual which are crucial in any work environment, civilian or military. Army ROTC (Reserve Officers' Training Corps) is one of the best leadership courses in the country and is part of your college curriculum. During classes and field training, you will learn first-hand what it takes to lead others, motivate groups and how to conduct missions as an Officer in the Army. Army ROTC is an elective curriculum you take along with your required college classes. It prepares you with the tools, training and experiences that will help you succeed in any competitive environment. Along with great leadership training, Army ROTC can pay for your college tuition, too. You will have a normal college student experience like everyone else on campus, but when you graduate, you will be an Officer in the Army. You can enroll anytime your ready, or you can come by and sit in a class to see what we're all about. Drop us a line or give us a call when you're up to the challenge. (814) 863-0368 - ask to speak to the "ROO" about joining a class, you won't be disappointed!
