The Professor of Military ScienceLTC Kilgallon, a native of East Meadow, New York, was commissioned in 1988 and entered Active Duty in the US Army as a Field Artillery officer upon graduation from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He began his career with the 3rd Battalion, 27th Field Artillery Regiment (MLRS) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he served as a Firing Platoon Leader, Fire Direction Officer, and Battery Executive Officer. He deployed with the battalion in August, 1991 in support of Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. After completing the Field Artillery Officer Advanced Course in 1993, he was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 11th Field Artillery, 6th Infantry Division (L) at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. During his assignment to Fort Wainwright, he served in the following positions: Battalion Adjutant, Battalion Fire Support Officer for the 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry (Manchu), and Battery Commander. In 1998, LTC Kilgallon was assigned to the Department of the Army Staff, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. While at the Pentagon, he served as an Executive Officer, and later as a Protocol Officer in the Office of the Chief of Staff, Army. Upon leaving the Pentagon in 2000, LTC Kilgallon attended Command and General Staff College at the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island. LTC Kilgallon was again assigned to Fort Bragg, North Carolina in July, 2000 and served as the Corps Artillery Deputy G-3, and later as the Battalion Executive Officer for 3rd Battalion, 321st Field Artillery (Thunderbolt) for 27 months. LTC Kilgallon deployed with the battalion in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. After re-deploying from Afghanistan, LTC Kilgallon was assigned to the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) at Fort Polk, Louisiana as an Observer / Controller. While assigned to JRTC, LTC Kilgallon served as the Field Artillery CSS and Brigade Fire Support / Effects Coordinator Observer Controller. LTC Kilgallon arrived at his present duty assignment as Professor of Military Science at The Pennsylvania State University on 16 June 2006. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (4th Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC), Army Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kuwaiti Liberation Medal, Valorous Unit Award, the Army Staff Identification Badge, and the Parachutist Badge. LTC Kilgallon holds a bachelor’s degree in Management from the United States Military Academy at West Point, a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University, and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island.
