Email Consulting Service

The Graduate Writing Center aims to support all Penn State graduate student writers by providing reflective and individualized feedback at any stage of a writing project. Penn State graduate students located at branch campuses or taking classes off campus, however, may find it impossible to visit the GWC office to receive this support. In an effort to support these writers, the Graduate Writing Center has been testing an experimental email consulting service to supplement its traditional services.

The email consulting service is specifically designed to serve the needs of "place-bound writers"--that is, writers who are unable to visit University Park due to work, research, or enrollment at a branch campus. This restriction is in place partly because a worthwhile email exchange takes longer than a face-to-face appointment. But most writers also agree that a face-to-face conversation is the most effective way to discuss their writing; an email exchange is no substitute for meeting in person, and writers are encouraged to visit the GWC in person if possible.

Participating in the Email Consulting Service

The email consulting service is only available on a limited basis, by special arrangement with the GWC. To inquire about this service, please contact the GWC coordinator (see side bar) or call (814) 865-8021.
