Writing Literature Reviews (Instructor: Jill Treftz)

Summarizing a large body of scholarship clearly and informatively can be a difficult task; moreover, it is a task that is an important part of nearly all branches of academia. This discussion-oriented session aims to help participants write effective reviews by clarifying the conventions and strategies that almost all literature reviews share. In addition, it will explore ways of learning how to determine those conventions that are unique to the individual graduate student's discipline. The workshop will also involve group analysis of published reviews in order to discuss effective organizational strategies.

Date: Thursday, March 20th. Time: 6-8 p.m.

Date: Tuesday, April 8th. Time: 6-8 p.m.

Instructors: Brandy Scalise and Jill Treftz are advanced PhD students in English who have taught Rhetoric and Composition and have worked as professional writing tutors for both native speakers and ESL students.
