Ph.D. Programs in Mass Communications

The Ph.D. program in Mass Communications at Penn State is based in the research and teaching expertise of the distinguished graduate faculty in the College of Communications. We assume that doctoral study in communications is most effective and rewarding when students are given the opportunity to work with the internationally known scholars they have identified as having the particular expertise that best suits their scholarly objectives. And, we assume that doctoral students want a program that facilitates their active collaboration with those scholars. Therefore, rather than offering a list of generic graduate courses in communications, our doctoral program is centered around track configurations that lead to specialized programs of scholarly contributions among students and faculty.
