"Subsequent subcontracts from many of Long Island's large defense firms were obtained, and the company grew and leased several buildings in the Mineola area to house the expanding operations.
"In 1958, Instruments For Industry, Inc. was incorporated, and shortly thereafter consolidated all its activities in a new building in Hicksville, Long Island. By this time the company had grown and was largely a prime contractor for the Air Force, Navy, and Army, providing cutting-edge development of electronic countermeasures equipment.
"Later, in the 1960's, it began to appear that a commercial market was developing for equipment that utilized many of the techniques that the company had pioneered, and the military work was de-emphasized. IFI turned toward becoming a commercial supplier of industrial laboratory equipment for the creation, measurement, control, and containment of high intensity electromagnetic fields. IFI's product line has evolved with attention to the latest technology and an ear to the needs of its customers. By doing so, IFI produced many innovative products that subsequently were taken up by other companies:
Commercial high power distributed tube amplifiers
(1957)
Broadband, direct reading, E-field sensors
(1971)
Broadband E-field generator (1971)
Automatic E-field leveling system (1972)
Commercial TEM Cells (1975)
Cost saving, dual band amplifiers (1980)
EMP amplifiers with bandwidths from 1 kHz
to 220 MHz (1980)
200 V/m from 0.01 to 1000 MHz with only two
amplifiers (1988)
Software for comprehensive immunity testing
and EMC test room evaluations (1990)
An automatic, current/voltage, cable injection
test (1991)
Completely air cooled 10,000 Watt amplifier
(1994)
Dual power amplifiers for IEC-801-3 testing
(1995)
"Today, IFI is known world wide for its products and its ability to
put together specific solutions for its customers. Almost half of the company's
sales are to developed and developing countries around the globe. It maintains
a modern, well equipped manufacturing and engineering facility in
Ronkonkoma, Long Island.
