Discantus, an auditioned female choir composed of members of the Oriana Singers, was the first group to perform at the Faculty Staff Club showcase of Student Talent.

Andrew Litts, a senior composition major at Penn State, composed some of the music performed by Discantus, which the group performed for the first time at the Showcase of Student Talent. Litts recorded the performance to add to his student portfolio.

James Maguire and Ron Lange demonstrated some of the many sonic possibilities offered by the double bass. One of the songs they performed originally was written for two violins. They also played some Baroque music and some more modern selections.

The Isometrix Quartet, Nick Svoboda, Michelle Lillie, Mallory Leach and Caleb Rebarchak, played a variety of songs. The group also played at the first Faculty Staff Club Showcase of Student Talent last spring.

Jazz saxophonist Greg Johnson gave a solo performance, during which he asked the audience to sing three notes at random. He then took the notes, played with them, and improvised music around them until he found himself playing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," never losing touch with the original three notes.

Saxophonist Greg Johnson called bass player James Maguire to the stage to perform the final number of the evening, "Last Night in Italy," an original song Johnson wrote during his last night in Italy during a European tour in 2006.
