AlcoholEdu
for Penn State Fall Students
Completion Deadline: August 24, 2008
Dear Penn State Student,
As part of the University's alcohol prevention program, all incoming students are required to complete a confidential, online alcohol education course, entitled AlcoholEdu for College. The course uses science-based research to educate students about alcohol and its effects. Whether you drink or not, the course will help you make informed decisions about alcohol and the drinking behavior that may occur around you. To take the course, you will need a computer with Internet access and audio capability. If you do not have home access to a computer, you can use any publicly available computer with Internet access.
The course consists of two parts, both of which must be completed to satisfy this requirement. All information you provide is confidential. Penn State and AlcoholEDU staff will never see individual student surveys or responses.
Part 1
This part will take approximately three hours to complete.
It includes:
* A pre-survey;
* A pre-test of your alcohol knowledge;
* The educational course;
* An exam, which you must pass with a score of at least 75%; and
* A post-survey.
You may access Part 1 of the course beginning July 22. We strongly encourage you to complete the program by August 19, before you travel to campus. The deadline for completing Part 1 is August 24 for students entering in Fall 2008.
Part 2
After you arrive on campus, you will receive an email with instructions for completing Part 2 of the course. This will occur 45 days after you complete Part 1. The deadline for completing Part 2 is October 15.
Part 2 will take about 15 minutes to complete.
It includes:
* Updated alcohol information;
* A short video; and
* A final survey
Part 2 of the course must be completed within 15 days of receiving instructions in order to satisfy the requirement.

Rachel Urwin,
AlcoholEdu Program Coordinator

As the parent or guardian of an incoming Penn State Student, we welcome your involvement in our educational alcohol information program. Your student is required to complete Part 1 of the AlcoholEdu for College course prior to arriving on campus. The goal of the program is to help students make informed decisions as they make the transition into college life. We encourage you to take a brief look at the course material and talk with your student about what he or she has learned and how this information might be useful in the future.

To find out more about the program please visit Outside the Classroom and the AlcoholEdu for College websites.
