Modem Dial-up Numbers

Below are telephone numbers to dial into Internet services at Penn State locations. Before using any of these numbers, please read the section “Internet Connections.” Dial-up services and phone numbers are subject to change. The most current information is posted at http://css.its.psu.edu/internet/dialup/ on the Web.

Note that because of continuous changes in the structures and rates of telephone service companies, dial-up numbers may change without warning from a local to a long-distance call. Penn State cannot be responsible for long-distance charges incurred by using dial-up numbers. Consumers are responsible for understanding the options and rates provided by telephone service companies. If you are concerned about charges for the use of dial-up numbers, contact your local telephone service representative. All numbers support a maxiumum speed of 56 Kbps (V.90) and 128 Kbps (ISDN).

Maximum Speed

This figure indicates the theoretical maximum speed (in bits per second x1000). If 56 Kbps (V.90) : the best usually seen is 48,000. The speed you connect with may be less, often depending on the quality of phone lines and varying from call-to-call and day-to-day. Many modems can "train-up", and improve speed (or lower it) as line quality changes.

Penn State Travel Calling Options

Traveling Penn State faculty and staff have the following calling options available:

For domestic travel, faculty and staff can use the Penn State Travel Calling Card Service to dial-up from anywhere to anywhere in the United States at low fixed rates. Access to the Penn State Travel Calling Card Service is available through an 800 number and a 5-digit authorization code.
For international travels, the Penn State International Prepaid Calling Card is available to faculty and staff.
