Web Publishing at Penn State

So you want to be a Web wizard? We've compiled information and resources here that should help you get started quickly. In no time you'll be making Web magic.

As a first step, find a web server for your files. A server can be the same computer where the files are created. However, in most cases, a separate computer functions as the Web server. In the departments and colleges, a computer support person, system administrator, or editor may serve as "Webmaster." How this is handled depends on the resources and staffing of each department or college. A variety of options may be available.

If you do not have access to a department or other web server, the Information Technology Services (ITS) offers World Wide Web server space for all Penn State students, faculty, staff, colleges, and departments. A Penn State Access Account is required. Web space application and duration are subject to the ITS policies Web Services and Penn State Access Account Qualifications.

Please note that ITS tests systems every day between 5:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. During that time, one or more services may not be available.
