Update an existing Index

Note: Pressing the Main Menu button takes the user back to the Site Index main menu screen where the next operation can be selected without submitting and/or changing the current information

  1. Login at the Site Index Administrator Login at https://clc.its.psu.edu/siteindex/admin.pl using your Penn State Access Account.



  2. Press Enter to continue.

  3. Select Update Index from the Site Index main menu that is displayed.



  4. A page will be displayed that lists your Site Indexes.



  5. Select the Index to be updated by clicking on the radio button next to the form you want to update.



  6. Press the Update button to continue.

  7. A Site Index Update Page is Displayed.



  8. Change the Organization Name if desired.

  9. Similarly, modify the email address for the site index if necessary.

  10. Add/modify optional Header and Footer fields to be added to the Site index.

  11. At Column Break, enter the letter for the top of the second column if you would like your index to appear in two columns.

  12. Select Continue to proceed.

  13. A page that allows you to update Site Index Entries is displayed. The following options are available :



    • Hide Keywords : Optional keywords associated with the Index entries can be hidden/displayed in the Site Index work area by clicking on this button. Keywords will not be displayed on your Site Index, but will be used in future versions to search your index.




    • Hide URL : The URL associated with the Index entries can be hidden in the Site Index work area, thereby displaying only the topic and the optional keywords and descriptions. Clicking the button twice displays the URL. The URL does not display on your Site Index, rather it is used to create a link from your Subject.




    • Hide Description : Optional descriptions associated with the Index entries can be omitted/displayed in the Site Index work area by clicking on this button. Descriptions will display on your Site Index following your linked Subject.





    • Add Topic : Add a new entry to the Index (topic and the corresponding URL and an optional description of the URL as well as keywords that can be used for contect based search). For example, the entry corresponding to Account Services provided by the CSS can be added to the site index as follows:




    • List by URL : View a listing of the index entries sorted on the URL field rather than the topic. By default entries are sorted on the topic field. Note that the listing is ordered alphabetically on the first letter of the URLs.




    • Save Changes: Commit the modifications made to the datebase.
    • Generate HTML : Translate the updated database contents to the Site Index page in HTML format. This page can be accessed through the link displayed on the current page.(The organization Site Index is located at URL . To view changes, choose Generate HTML and then Reload the page)
  14. Press the appropriate button for the required changes to the site index page

  15. Press the Save Changes button to commit the latest changes to your index page.
