Incoming Faculty and Graduate Students
This coming fall, The Center for Language Science will be welcoming some incoming faculty and graduate students to Penn State.
Ping Li has recently accepted a faculty position in the Psychology Department here and is a new member to the Center for Language Science. He will be moving to State College in this summer.
Pilar PiƱar (e-mail), an associate professor from Gallaudet University and current member of the CLS, will join us as a visiting professor here at Penn State in the Spanish Department.
Janet van Hell (e-mail), a current CLS member from Radboud University, Nijmegen, will be a visiting professor of Psychology and Linguistics for the Fall Semester.
Note that Janet will be a visiting professor in our department for each of the next three fall semesters to the cognitive area. Her appointment is technically as a fixed term lecturer but she is actually a professor visiting from another university. She will be teaching two courses, one in psychology and another in linguistics, and should have a normal faculty mailbox. Her office will be located on the 6th floor.
Dr. Eleanora Rossi (e-mail) will be a postdoctoral fellow in the Dussias and Kroll labs. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, and will be in residence at Penn State as a postdoctoral fellow from September 30, 2008 - September 30, 2009. Her office will most ikely be in Moore 4a.
Carolina Yudes (e-mail), Ph.D. Student, University of Granada will be here from September 15 - December 15, 2008. She will have a desk in 623 Moore or Moore 4a
Marijt Witteman (e-mail), Ph. D. Student, Radboud University , Nijmegen, The Netherlands. She will be here beginning October 27, 2008.
Lastly, there are a handful of incoming students. Rhonda McClain and Helen Graves have joined Penn State as graduate students in the cognitive area of the Psychology Department. Arthur Wendorf, Natalia Guzman, Elizabeth Finanger, Alvaro Villegas, and Bonnie Holmes are new graduate students in Spanish Department.

Upcoming Colloquiums
Margaret Deuchar Visit - Thursday and Friday, November 20th and 21st
Margaret Deuchar will be visiting to give a colloquium talk on the 20th of November. It will be an afternoon lecture, details to come. On the 21st she will meet with CLS members during the Friday meeting slot.
Karen Emmory Visit - Thursday and Friday, January 15th and 16th
Please save the dates of January 15 and 16, 2009 for a visit by Karen Emmorey, one of the CLS external advisory board members and a leading researcher on the cognitive and neural basis of language processing in deaf and hearing users of sign languages. You can read more about her research here.
We will try to arrange her colloquium for Thursday, January 15, at 4 pm and have her meet with grad students at the usual language science time from 10-11:30 on Friday, January 16. More to come later on all of this. We will arrange a large room for the colloquium so you can feel free to have undergraduate classes attend.
