Hiking
through the Penn State New Kensington Nature Trail we have seen a rich diversity
of plants and animals and explored the influence of environmental variables and
site history on their distribution and abundance. Some organisms in our forest
survive and perpetuate themselves by strategies of strength and very long
lives. Others rely on rapid, opportunistic growth to maintain themselves
within the forest ecosystem. The ongoing interactions of these species as
they modify the limiting factors of the forest ecosystem generates the
ecological process called succession. Our forest ecosystem is always
changing! We hope that you will return soon to see the new events.
