PENN STATE STUDENTS
Annie Gooding Sykes Internship
The Annie Gooding Sykes Internship is an intensive, 12-week internship offered during the summer. Interns work with museum staff on a variety of curatorial projects, with a particular focus on American works on paper.
Upper-level undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in art history, the School of Visual Arts, women's studies, or American studies are eligible for the Sykes Internship. Students who have completed the Art 409/Art H 409: Museum Studies course are preferred. One internship with a stipend is offered each summer.
Students who are awarded Sykes internships are strongly urged to attend the annual College of Arts & Architecture scholarship recipient luncheon, held this year on Saturday, April 12, 11:30 to 2:00 p.m.
Education Internship
Students enrolled in the Museums and Cultural Institutions Option and graduate students from the Art Education program of the School of Visual Arts may apply to complete their internship requirement with the curator of education during the summer session, in cooperation with their advisor. This is a for-credit internship through Art Education with no stipend offered. Students who have completed the Art 409/Art H 409: Museum Studies course are preferred.
Registration Internship
Students in the College of Arts & Architecture and other colleges may be eligible for an internship position with the registrar during the summer session, in cooperation with their advisor. This is a for-credit internship through individual departments with no stipend offered. Students who have completed the Art 409/Art H 409: Museum Studies course are preferred.
Palmer Museum Internship
Periodically the museum is able to offer summer internships with a small stipend. Interns work with professional staff on a variety of projects as needed. Students who have completed the Art 409/Art H 409: Museum Studies course are preferred.
Work-Study Positions
Federal work-study positions are available for both undergraduate and graduate students at the Palmer Museum of Art during the academic year and summer sessions. You must receive approval from the Office of Student Aid and maintain eligibility requirements.
STUDENTS FROM OTHER UNIVERSITIES
Palmer Museum Internship
Periodically the museum is able to offer summer internships with a small stipend to students who are not enrolled at Penn State but are affiliated with other regional colleges and universities. Interns work with museum staff on a variety of projects as needed.

A limited number of volunteer opportunities are available for upper-level undergraduates and graduate students from art, art education, or art history. Volunteers are selected based on relevant coursework, areas of interest and knowledge, and the current needs of the museum staff.
