Matisse: Jazz
February 29-May 28, 2000
In late February 2000, the Palmer Museum will present Jazz,a suite of twenty colorful prints by Henri Matisse, arguably one of the century's most influential artists. Published in 1947, Jazzmarked Matisse's turn from oil painting to the cut-out technique that he explored for the remainder of his career. Drawn from the collection of David and Gerry Pincus, the suite will be accompanied by two important early twentiethth-century prints also on loan from the Pincus collection: Cézanne's The Bathersand Picasso's Frugal Repast. Complementing the Pincus works will be prints and drawings by other modern masters selected from the Palmer Museum's permanent collection.
