The Penn State HazMat Team was started in 1985. The team is comprised of representatives from different departments of Penn State, including Environmental Health and Safety, University Police, Office of Physical Plant, Applied Research Lab and others.

Members of the Penn State HazMat team respond to calls involving hazardous materials spills or accidents within Centre County.  In order for the team to commit to a call, at least nine members of the team must respond. The truck, HazMat 20, is an integral part of the team's response to these incidents. There is over one hundred thousand dollars invested in the equipment that is stored within this unit.  The truck, itself, is valued at over $115, 000. A chronology of the acquisition of the HazMat 20 truck can be found here.   And, for those that are interested in the truck specifications, please follow this link.
