The Security Escort Service is designed to provide walking accompaniment to Penn State students, employees and visitors who may feel unsafe walking alone on campus at night. Mobile escorts may also be provided to augment the walking service, when appropriate.
The Security Escort Service operates out of the Auxiliary Police, which is a uniformed student division within the University Police.
Uniformed student employees who carry police radios, will walk Penn State students, employees, and visitors from one on-campus location to another, and to within reasonable walking distance off-campus. Escorts are available from dusk to dawn 365 days a year.
Mobile Escorts, which are provided by Handy Delivery Taxi and AA Transit, Inc. will be sent at the discretion of the Security Escort Dispatcher and are free of charge. Mobile escorts are available when classes are not in session and when walkers may be unavailable.
Reasons for sending a mobile escort may include, but are not limted to, location of the caller and the distance to the destination, availability of walkers, and weather conditions.
Mobile escorts are generally limited to a one-mile radius of central campus. Mobile escorts ending off-campus will be provided only to the residence of the caller. Mobile escorts will not be given to groups of 3 or more individuals traveling to the same location.
You will be asked your name, telephone number, your present location and your intended destination. You will be given the approximate time that your Security Escort or your Mobile Escort will arrive.
