Teaching International allows students at Penn State Greater Allegheny to broaden their knowledge of different countries and the cultures of those countries through special events, speakers and trips.

The program began in 2004 with the focus on Haiti. Other areas of the world that have been explored are: Africa in 2005-2006, India in 2006-2007, South Asia in 2007-2008. In 2008 to 2009 with the theme of Latin America and the Caribbean, Teaching International began to incorporate another theme to accompany the regional focus. 2008-2009’s theme was food security.

The focus of the 2009-2010 program is East Asia and the environment. The countries that make up East Asia are People’s Republic of China, Republic of China (Taiwan), Japan, North Korea and South Korea. For more information on events, please see the Calendar.

Note: The U.N. recently proclaimed 2005-2015 as the DECADE OF WATER. http://www.un.org/waterforlifedecade/
