The telecast is the 12th announced TV appearance of the season for the Nittany Lions, who have
appeared on television 65 times in their last 66 games. Including the Michigan State contest, the last
34 Penn State contests will have been televised.
The Spartans lead the series with the Nittany Lions, 9-6-1, but Penn State has won five of the six games since starting Big Ten play in 1993. Last year, PSU won 51-28 in State College, but two years MSU belted the Lions, 49-14 in East Lansing. The victor earns the Land Grant Trophy. Michigan State is 7-2 overall, 4-2 in Big Ten play and visits Northwestern Saturday.
Penn State (9-1, 5-1) is coming off a heart-breaking 24-23 loss to Minnesota on Saturday, as the Gophers' Dan Nystrom kicked a 32-yard field goal as time expired. The Lions had not a lost a game on the final play since a "Hail Mary" pass at California in 1965, the year before Joe Paterno became head coach.
Penn State has appeared on ABC four times this season (Arizona, Ohio State, Purdue, Illinois), twice on ESPN (Pittsburgh, Indiana), twice on ESPN Regional (Akron, Iowa) and once on ESPN2 (Minnesota) and CBS (Miami).
Penn State has won 53 of its 65 television appearances over the past six seasons. The Nittany Lions have made 184 appearances on national networks under Coach Joe Paterno and own an overall record of 127-56-1 in those games
The Nittany Lions play their final home Saturday, hosting Michigan at 12 p.m. ABC will televise to national audience, except for the west coast. Twenty-one Penn State seniors will be playing in Beaver Stadium for the final time.
