Job Description: Applications are being accepted for a U.S. Department of Education Institute of Education Sciences (IES)-sponsored 2-year postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Statistics at Iowa State University. The overall goal of the postdoctoral position is to provide the scholar with the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to conduct rigorous educational research and develop competitive IES grant proposals. The scholar will work with faculty from a variety of disciplines on a large-scale random control trial (RCT) study of the implementation in elementary grades of the Science Writing Heuristic (SWH). The SWH approach emphasizes the development of students' argumentation and critical thinking skills linked to their acquisition of science content knowledge. The RCT is being conducted in 48 schools and with thousands of students throughout the state of Iowa.
Required Qualifications: A candidate will have a Ph.D. in statistics or a related field in the last 5 years. The candidate will join a research team at Iowa State University that includes experts in statistical methods, school-based data, and education policy. Opportunities for scholarship, publication, and professional development will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in advanced statistical methods in human science research is preferred.
Salary: $50,000 per year for a two-year period.
