Applying for Student Aid 2011-12
The information to the right will assist you with the application process for student financial aid at Penn State. It is designed to give you an overview of the process and provide you with the information you need to apply for aid.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA on the Web) serves as the single application for financial aid at Penn State. Students who complete the aid application process are considered for federal, state, and University student financial aid programs. Private scholarships and some Penn State scholarships, do require separate applications. Please review the Scholarships section of our Web site for additional information.
- If you are a student new to Penn State, we encourage you to complete the FAFSA by March 1, 2011.
- If you are a returning student to Penn State, you should complete the FAFSA by April 15, 2011.
For the 2011-12 academic year you will have the ability to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to view and transfer your federal tax information to your 2011-12 FAFSA. This optional tool will allow you and your family to securely transfer your federal tax information directly to the FAFSA. It will save you and your family time and will increase the accuracy of your FAFSA information.
Penn State recommends that you first file your federal tax form prior to completing the FAFSA.
If you are using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to submit your FAFSA, please use the following timetable:
- If you filed your federal taxes electronically, please submit your FAFSA approximately 1-2 weeks after you submit your tax form to the IRS.
- If you filed your federal tax form by mail, please submit your FAFSA approximately 6-8 weeks after you mail your tax form.
Penn State's Federal School Code is 003329.
