DOUG'S CORNER

The month of August has just flown by. Team Tennis has ended for the summer, and we are looking to put on a variety of events on Thursday nights to replace Team Tennis until the indoor season begins. The first event will be a Men's Doubles Night on September 14, 2000. There will be a $5.00 charge for this Round Robin event. We will supply the balls and coordinate the event. Just sign up in the Pro Shop. Each participant will play with a different partner for 4 games plus a tie-breaker. The Round Robin event will go from 6-8 PM. For more details, call Eric or Doug in the Pro Shop. Future events also include: September 21, 2000, Mixed Doubles Night; September 28, 2000, Women's Doubles Night; October 5, 2000, Men's Singles Night. The rest of October events will be in the October newsletter. Come out for an evening of fun and tennis.

WOMEN'S FLEX LEAGUE

The women's flex league is winding down with the next twwo weeks as make up weeks for matches that were not played before the September 16 deadline. In order for Eric and I to determine the final standings of the flex league, we need all results turned in at your earliest convenience. So far, we have had good success with most matches being completed during the week they were scheduled. When matches are being played on the clay courts, there will be a two-hour time limit to the matches unless there are no reservations scheduled after the two-hour time limit. If you have any questions, contact Doug in the Pro Shop at 865-1381.

The summer's Junior Development is over and was a great success. We had many new juniors joing the program to make it a success. Our fall Junior Development program is getting underway in September on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please see the Junior Development information in this month's newsletter. Eric and I are going to continue junior programs through the fall and winter seasons. We want to build a bright future for tennis in State College and the High School teams. Please refer any and all junior players our way so we can get them started on their way to play a life sport.

On major update on court closures is the weekend of September 16 and 17. This is the weekend of the Penn State Men's Tennis Team fall tournament. All courts will be closed except for the clay courts. We apologize for any inconvenience. Come out and support your Nittany Lion Tennis Teams.
