Committee for Institutional Cooperation

The CIC is a consortium of 12 research universities, including the 11 members of the Big Ten Conference and the University of Chicago. The mission of the CIC is to advance academic excellence by sharing resources and promoting and coordinating collaborative activities across the member universities. The CIC is guided by the Provosts of the member universities.

Academic Leadership Program (ALP)

Established in 1987, the Academic Leadership Program (ALP) is designed to develop the leadership and managerial skills of faculty on CIC campuses who have demonstrated exceptional ability and administrative promise.

The CIC ALP Fellows for 2008-09 are:

Lee D. Coraor, 2008-09 Chair-Elect of the University Faculty Senate, and Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering in the College of Engineering; Colleen Toomey Lieberman, Administrative Fellow to the Executive Vice President and Provost, and Assistant Dean for Policy and Planning in The Dickinson School of Law; Timothy W. Simpson, Professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and Engineering Design in the College of Engineering; Barbara A. Sims, Associate Professor of Criminal Justice in the Capital College; and Marica S. Tacconi, Director of the Institute for the Arts and Humanities, and Associate Professor of Musicology in the College of Arts and Architecture.

Department Executive Officers Program (DEO)

In 1997-98 the CIC initiated an annual program of leadership development opportunities for department heads and chairs (Department Executive Officers or "DEOs"). Institutional team participants include seasoned veterans as well as newer department heads and chairs.
