Educational Planning Survey: Results

The Educational Planning Survey (EPS) is administered annually to over 13,000 entering Penn State students. The data from the machine-scannable section of the survey are stored in the University's Integrated Student Information System (ISIS) and in its data warehouse. Each year, the Division of Undergraduate Studies uses the EPS data to generate reports showing the characteristics of entering Penn State students in various subgroups.

The charts displayed on this Web site provide information about new, first-year students admitted to:
  1. University Park only
  2. Other locations (the campuses of the Abington, Altoona, Berks-Lehigh Valley, Capital, and Commonwealth Colleges)
  3. All Penn State undergraduate locations combined
EPS data from 13,512 first-year students admitted in summer and fall 2000, including 5,505 students admitted to the University Park campus and 8,007 students admitted to other locations, were analyzed for these charts. Because some students did not answer every question on the EPS, most charts include a "no reply" section to indicate the number of omitted responses. (Note: In 1999, the “no reply” sections of the charts included freshmen who did not submit an EPS at all; in the 2000 data, students who did not submit an EPS were eliminated entirely from the data and the accompanying charts.)

The 2000 EPS data were compiled on September 28, 2000.
