IDENTIFYING CROSS-LISTED COURSES
In the Course Descriptions section of the Undergraduate Degree Programs Bulletin, cross-listed courses are listed parenthetically following the course number and codes. In the Schedule of Courses, each course links to these descriptions. Though the department differs, cross-listed courses typically have the same course number. For example, in the Bulletin, Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies (CAMS) 102 is cross-listed with History (HIST), Jewish Studies (J ST), and Religious Studies (RL ST) as follows:
CAMS 102 (GH;IL) (HIST 102, J ST 102, RL ST 102) Canaan and Israel in Antiquity (3) Political, social, and intellectual history of the land of Canaan/Israel in the Biblical era: Late Bronze and Iron Ages.
HIST 102 (GH;IL) (CAMS 102, J ST 102, RL ST 102) Canaan and Israel in Antiquity (3) Political, social, and intellectual history of the land of Canaan/Israel in the Biblical era: Late Bronze and Iron Ages.
J ST 102 (GH;IL) (CAMS 102, HIST 102, RL ST 102) Canaan and Israel in Antiquity (3) Political, social, and intellectual history of the land of Canaan/Israel in the Biblical era: Late Bronze and Iron Ages.

To determine whether or not a course is cross-listed with another course, authorized advisers can enter the course information on ISIS screen ARUAC, and any cross-listed courses will be displayed in the "XLIST COURSE" field.
A student whose major is in the area of Natural Sciences, Arts, Humanities, or Social and Behavioral Sciences may not fulfill a General Education requirement in these areas by taking a course in the department offering the major. In other words, a course that is cross-listed with a course offered by the department of a student's major may not be used to satisfy his/her General Education requirement (e.g., a student majoring in Religious Studies may not use J ST 102 as General Education Humanities, GH).
Bachelor of Arts Degree (B.A.)
A student earning a B.A. degree may not use a course that is cross-listed with a course offered by the department of his/her major to satisfy a B.A. requirement (e.g., a student majoring in Religious Studies may not use J ST 102, which is cross-listed as RL ST 102, to fulfill his/her B.A. Humanities requirement).
When a student is fulfilling the requirements of a major or a minor, a course that is cross-listed with a course required for the academic program will satisfy the requirement. The degree audit recognizes cross-listed courses and will list them appropriately.
When a cross-listed course is offered, the course appears in the Schedule of Courses under each of the departments offering it. The total number of seats available in the class is divided among these departments, in some cases unequally. In the example above, if a total of fifty seats are available, twenty seats may be offered in CAMS, and ten seats may be offered by each of the other departments. All fifty students would meet in the same location at the same time.
