ACADEMIC ENTRANCE AND RETENTION REQUIREMENTS
(Senate Policies 37-30, 54-56)

Academic entrance requirements are requirements for entrance to a major or retention in a major that have been approved by the University Faculty Senate when it has been demonstrated that without fulfilling specified entrance or retention standards students are not likely to be successful in the major.

Other controls on enrollment in majors include administrative enrollment controls and direct admission. Depending on a major's controls and requirements, procedures for entrance may vary (see Entrance to Major).

Entrance-to-major requirements (both academic and administrative) are listed by college for each Penn State major.

For information about entrance to or retention in a specific major, the student should consult with the academic advising center in the appropriate college or at his/her campus.

The University may make changes in policies, procedures, educational offerings, and requirements at any time. Please consult a Penn State academic adviser for more detailed information.
