Introduction
Are you unsure about your choice of major? If so, you're not alone. Research by Penn State and other institutions has shown that up to 80 percent of students entering college admit that they're not certain what they want to major in, even if they've initially declared a major. In addition, up to 50 percent of college students change their majors at least once before graduation, and some change several times. So you can see that being unsure about a major actually puts you in the majority.
Students who aren't sure about their majors often want to make a decision as quickly as possible. But making a decision that's this important shouldn't be rushed—you can't take shortcuts if you want to make a good decision.
MAJOR DECISIONS was written to help you think about the decision-making process and to help you get the information that you'll need to choose a major that's right for you. Read each of the sections listed in the menu, decide which ones will be most helpful to you, and then follow through with the suggested activities. For your near and distant futures, the results will be worth your time and effort.
